CLINICS & OTHER EVENTS

Clinics are a great way to enhance your driving knowledge

Safety Clinics

Safety Clinics are designed to promote driving safety for new drivers and for those who may be interested in learning more about what makes a good driving horse, fitting and care of the harness, and selecting a horse-drawn vehicle. These are not held every year but as the demand allows.

Member Clinics

Member clinics are held occasionally for drivers who wish to improve their skills. Professional clinicians are brought in to give the clinics. Members can sign up to participate or audit the clinic.

Spring ReStart Clinic this April 11th, 2026

The DDC ReStart Clinic is a low-key, educational opportunity to help members learn more about the hows and whys of carriage driving. We have asked some of our local experienced club members to share their knowledge in a fun, relaxing and social day of learning. Presenters may have handouts to share, and sessions might be recorded. Demonstration equines are provided - no need to bring a horse.

Basics and Beyond Driving Clinic - May 30 & 31, 2026

This is our 4th year for our Member Clinic entitled "Basics and Beyond" held this May 30-31, 2026 at the Heartland Equestrian center in Custer, Wisconsin.

This is a great environment to get your feet wet and try the sport of driving or, alternatively,  enhance your already acquired skills.  Novice and experienced drivers alike will benefit from this two-day event.  Our panel of five very experienced clinicians are ready to share their horsemanship and advanced driving skills.  You won't find a more impressive array of talent available to you at one time in one location!

RECREATIONAL DRIVES

General Information about Pleasure Drives

One activity of the Dairyland Driving Club is to provide safe and enjoyable pleasure drives at various scenic locations throughout Wisconsin. All drives begin at 10:00 AM. Drivers unhitch around noon and we eat together at 12:30 PM. Drives continue after lunch. In case of inclement weather, check your email or the DDC website for further information.

Drivers must be DDC members. All horses must have a current negative Coggins Test to participate in any club event.  Out of state horses may require a health certificate; check with your vet.  Send copies of your Coggins Test by email to wassamcarriage@gmail.com or present paper copies to the Host at the drive.

A DNR vehicle admission sticker is required on all motor vehicles stopping in State Park, Forest, Recreation Area and Trail parking areas. (Exception: All vehicle admission sticker fees and trail fees on state-operated designated state trails are waived for Free Fun Weekend, the first full weekend in June.)

Some Important Safety Rules:

  1. Make sure your harness and vehicle are in good working order.
  2. When hitching or unhitching your horse to the cart, have a reliable horse      person head your horse.
  3. If you are coming without a helper, ask any experienced driver at the drive to help you hitch and unhitch. They will be happy to do so.
  4. Always unhitch the horse from the cart BEFORE removing the bridle.
  5. The driver and all passengers should wear safety helmets.
  6. Refer to our DDC Safety Manual for other suggestions.
